April 23, 2009

Dear friends, family, and those who have followed our musical adventures,

After seven years and hundreds of performances, it has come time to play our final show as Five Blank Pages. Since 2003, we’ve worked very hard and done so much. Our lives are now moving on to place other priorities ahead of the band. It was only a matter of time until the scales would tip, thereby putting Five Blank Pages behind us.

It would only feel right to signal the end of the band with a celebration of what we’ve accomplished, who we’ve had the pleasure of working with, and the music we’ve created. We want you to join us for the last Five Blank Pages show. We’ve worked hard to make it as special as possible and for everyone to be able to attend. The details are:

Over The Top Fest 2009 presents:

Sat, May 23rd, 2009 at The Mod Club Theatre
722 College Street, Toronto, ON M6G 1C4
www.themodclub.com

Five Blank Pages (final show)

With special guests:

Oh No Forest Fires
myspace.com/ohnoforestfires

&

Boys Who Say No
myspace.com/boyswhosayno

The show is All Ages/Licensed.

$10 in advance / $12 at the door
Tickets available now at Rotate This and Soundscapes in Toronto.
Or buy tickets online now at: ticketweb.ca

Doors open at 6:30 pm. The show starts at 7:15pm.
Five Blank Pages play their final set at 9pm sharp. The show will be over at 10pm.

As you can see, the show is open to all ages, but will also be licensed for those who would like to drink. We did this so all of you under 19 can make it, as we have not been out in the suburbs for too long. It would mean lot to us if you came to us for this show!

The show will be part of Over The Top Fest (overthetopfest.com), which is run by our good friend, Eric Warner. This would mark the 4th time we’ve played in the festival since 2004. It’s a festival we’ve always supported- watching it grow from year to year has been amazing.

The band in its current and final form is myself, Pinar and Michael Reles on drums. Rajiv Thavanathan, who previously played bass with us for 2 years, will be helping us out on bass for the night (thanks, Jeeber!). Rob Shortill (from This Is Picture) who played bass with us for our most recent shows will also be helping out on a few new songs as well (Thanks, Rob!). We will have a few more familiar faces join us that night; my sister and our drummer for 5 years, Chelen Hilmi will be singing harmonies and also playing drums on a few songs (!). We will also have our friends Peyton Leung, Reg McLean, Marcius Extavour and Dave Kates join us on violin, cello, trumpet and trombone respectively. We also have a few other surprise guests helping us out. Opening for us will be Rajiv’s (fantastic) band, Oh No Forest Fires, and Toronto's Boys Who Say No. We’re excited and honoured that both bands can join us for this show.

On top of all of this bittersweet hoopla, we will be releasing a new 4-song EP entitled “Young Glow” for you that night. This mini-album will come in numbered limited edition packaging. Three of these songs were recorded in December 2008 as rough demos, for which we owe many thanks to our friend Rob Shortill for recording at his home. The recordings turned out much better than we had planned, so we thought you should hear them. The fourth track “Cardigan” was recorded during the Last Blush sessions by Jose Contreras. The song has not been released, until now. These are the last musical episodes to remember us by, so hopefully you’ll pick one of these CDs up. All of our previous releases and merchandise will be available on this night on a Pay What You Can basis. We’d rather you have the music and merch than have it collect dust in our closets!

We cannot thank you enough for all of your support over the last few years- it’s been a fun and interesting ride and we hope we can share this one last night with you.

Til May 23rd.

Dear friends,

We're sorry that we've been incommunicado for so long. We assure you we've been busy! Either holed up at our friend Rob Andrew's house recording some new songs, holed up at our rehearsal space jamming them out, or holed up in places quiet and loud, living our lives as best we can. We hope Winter has been pleasant to you. We haven't been playing live much lately as we are feeling creative, but now have a few shows coming up, and maybe a few more that we'll tell you about soon. Much more news is on the way, we promise.

We truly hope to see you soon.

Hello!

Welcome to Spring! It has been a very long time since we've written, although time has been flying for Pinar and I. We've been very busy being not as busy, which is nice, but also taking time to craft some new songs and play with some very talented new people. Before we introduce you to any of them, Pinar and I have a few shows coming up in a stripped-down, acoustic set-up, which we've enjoyed many times in the past. It's always nice to be able to hear what you're singing! :)

we hope to see much more of you soon.

Dears,

A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!
We wish you all only health and happiness in 2008.

Now, onto some news that is really important to us...

We announce that the family of Five Blank Pages is about to go through a very major change- Chelen and Rajiv are moving on to pursue other interests and passions in their lives. We wish them only the best of luck in all that they do, of course. This has been a very challenging year, recording Last Blush and releasing it ourselves, touring behind it and seeing it through- It has also been the best year the band has ever had as well- the reaction to the record has been phenomenal and we've made some great memories playing to many wonderful people. College radio across the country has also been amazing. We could not be happier with how things have gone.

Pinar and I have decided to continue on with Five Blank Pages and start a new chapter, to explore where things can take us. We've had an amazing time being in this entity we call Five Blank Pages since 2003 and we hope that it can go to new places, grow, and stay fresh.

We've decided to celebrate the time Chelen & Rajiv have had with us- and to do so, we are putting on the most funnest & craziest show we can, inviting our most favourite friends to play with us, inviting many talented guest musicians on stage with us (wielding such beautiful things as violins, cellos, trumpets, trombones, and more), and inviting YOU to join us on this most special of occasions.

Be there with us on Sat, February 2nd at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. This IS the best venue in Toronto and our favourite place to play, anywhere. If you were at our CD release party in October, you know how much fun this show will be!

Joining us will be our friends The Junction, The Ghost Is Dancing and The Vulcan Dub Squad. We put this bill together ourselves- inviting our closest and most talented friends of long-standing.

It will be $8 at the door and 19+/licensed. If we could make it all ages we would but unfortunately it is out of our hands. Doors will open at 9pm and The Vulcan Dub Squad will kick the show off at 9:30pm, followed by The Ghost Is Dancing at 10:30pm, The Junction at 11:30pm and then Five Blank Pages, headlining the Horseshoe Tavern for the first time ever, at 12:30am. It is late, but it is a Saturday night and worth staying up for. We will be playing a few songs that you may not have heard for a while from our debut EP, Spaces To Occupy And Abandon, as well as many songs from our new full-length, Last Blush.

Please admire and pass on the super cute poster our friend Alice Phieu (http://www.alicephieu.com) has created here.

This will be the last show that Five Blank Pages play in a full band set up for some time. Pinar and I will be taking some time off from playing live to catch our collective breath, regroup and work on new music. The new songs we've written over the last few months are really exciting and are a step towards more ambitious territory in our music. We can't wait for you to hear where we are going. We're curious too!

Chelen and Rajiv will be missed. We truly hope you will join us on Sat, February 2nd @ The Horseshoe Tavern for their final show with Five Blank Pages. It will be something to remember.

xo,

noyan (& pinar & chelen & rajiv)
